What Size Skip Bin Do I Need?
Aug 3rd, 2020
At Cheapest Skips, we frequently get asked the question ‘what size skip bin do I need?’ This is a valid question and getting your skip size right first time could save you a lot of money and hassle down the track.
Each customer has a different set of needs, so there is no simple rule in terms of what size skip you need. However, we can identify the most common issues customers face – so you can be well-equipped to make an informed decision when selecting your skip size.
Don’t Hire Based on Price
One thing you should not do, is choose your skip size based on price. In the past, customers have been stung by ordering a smaller skip size and then overfilling it.
There are strict regulations around waste levels in skip bins and, legally, we cannot remove a skip bin which is overloaded. Overfull bins are dangerous and pose Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) risks, as well as health and safety hazards.
Regulations dictate that your waste must not exceed the top rim of the bin. Should your skip be overfull, Cheapest Skips will need to arrange for the delivery of a second skip bin, at your cost. You will then need to unload the overflowing contents from the skip bin and re-load them into the second skip.
The additional time and costs incurred in ordering a bin too small for purpose are unnecessary. Equally, you don’t want to overspend on a skip which is larger than you need. So, do a little homework before you order your skip.
Estimate, Estimate, Estimate
The skip size you require really depends on the following:
- The type of project you are undertaking.
- The amount of waste you are planning to dispose of.
- How bulky the items are.
Think carefully about how much waste you want to dispose of. Walk through your house or garden and compile a list of all the items you want to throw away. Make a mental note of how much space each item takes up and then add it all up as you go.
And remember, it’s always better to over-estimate, than to under-estimate.
What are the Size Options?
